Anxious Anxiety

It starts with the tightness of your chest, shortness of breath and is followed by that gut wrenching feeling making your head spin and your stomach churn.  You've noticed your heart is beating a mile a minute and your breathing has slowed right down to a pulse you can barely notice.  Nothing seems to be helping you or making you feel better.  Perhaps a distraction? Some fresh air you think or maybe even a glass of water.  Unfortunately with most cases nothing helps you beat those symptoms other than riding it out.  12% of people living in Canada experience this at some point in their lives (www.mooddisorderscanada.ca). The word we take for granted or underuse.... yes I am talking about anxiety.  Anxiety has become more common and known now than it ever has.  Is it because we are educating ourselves on it? Or is it because we live such high stress lives that more of us are experiencing it?

Every person who has suffered from anxiety knows that it is not something that you can talk yourself out of or do something to make you feel better in that exact moment.  Maybe you've suffered with it your whole life, part of your life, or once in a while you experience it or maybe you even know someone who has it.  The best thing to do with that awful word is to research it, accept that it is ok, find some of your triggers (example: crowds), stop asking  yourself why it is happening and start finding things that help you along the way.  It could be yoga, running, kickboxing, writing, whatever it is that makes you feel good do it.

It does get easier, you will be ok and it is common.  You are not alone, you will be ok, it is common.  Sometimes we need to accept those words and acknowledge them and do what makes us feel better as a person.  Stop worrying what anyone else has to stay and start focusing on you.

You are an amazing person, you are strong, you are fierce, you are radiant, you are confident, you are adaptable, you are emotional, you are loving, you are brilliant, you are important, you are all of those things and more.  Start making a list today of what you love about yourself and tomorrow add to it and keep following that pattern and affirming yourself and soon you will start to believe it too.
